For every dollar a man makes in management with the Abbotsford School District, a woman makes just over 86 cents, according to an analysis of 122 managerial employees by The News.
Taking publicly available information from the “sunshine list” – annual disclosures of all employees of public institutions in B.C. who make over $75,000 per year – The News analyzed the pay of all managerial positions from vice-principal to district principal.
The analysis found that in every single job title in which both sexes are represented, men took home more money than women.
The disparity fluctuates between various positions. Among principals, women made just 89.8 cents on the dollar, while female vice-principals took home 95.5 cents on the dollar. Female managers took home 97.7 cents for every dollar paid to men, while women in the role of director were paid 85 cents on the dollar.
In both of those comparisons, the roles that earned higher salaries on average – principals and directors – were the ones that saw greater disparity.
